Key memories

I was in my teens when Solid Gold made its debut on Saturday night television (in November 1980, I believe). A bit before the domination of videoclips in musical culture, this show was a way to be entertained by current pop stars lip-synching their way on a colorfuly decorated set. Of course, one of the reasons to keep watching was the Solid Gold Dancers, a troupe of around eight individuals whose main job was to perform during a weekly Top 10 countdown. Interestingly, the choregraphy was sometimes pretty hot for early evening viewing, probably because the female dancers were exquisitively sexy. My two favorites were Darcel Wynne and Deborah Jenssen, both of whom are pictured below.
With her amazing long tresses and cat’s eyes, Darcel Wynne was considered the lead dancer of the group, and one of the most popular key figure in the show. Her movie work consists of Jesus Christ Superstar, Mame, Xanadu and Night Shift.
The sultriness of Deborah Jenssen was also on display in a Rod Stewart’s video, Tonight I’m Yours, which was a near obsession of mine at the time. Couldn’t get enough of her gyrating besides that swimming pool! Deborah was seen in a couple of movies, Xanadu and Staying Alive, and numerous TV specials and stage performances.
Interestingly, these two performers, with their personalities and body types, paved the way to my own preferences towards women’s sexiness. What can I say? I was merely a teen voyeur…
Both ladies, now in the mid-fifites, have since retired for family purposes.

It was only fitting that Bianca Beauchamp joined the ranks of the Fetish Cult Sirens… wouldn’t you say?

Favorite singers

As we heard of the untimely death of singer Lux Interior, legendary leader of The Cramps, let’s also pay respect to his surviving partner, guitarist Poison Ivy Rorschach.
I have been a Cramps for more than 25 years (!) and can quite clearly remember the only time I saw them perform right here in Montreal, where my sister almost passed out during the show! I guess Lux’s microphone swallowing antics were too much for her? Candy del Mar and Nick Knox were members at that point. An unbelievable night. The enclosed photograph is from around that time.
“Unique” is one of many words that can describe them and their musical material, sometimes referred to as “psychobilly”. Many members gravitated around the group’s lineup since 1973, but the core duo of Lux Interior and Poison Ivy was of course the main driving force. To say that The Cramps influence me and the creation of the Cult Sirens universe is pure evidence. For some reason the Smell of Female live album will remain a personal favorite.

Isabelle Corey, Brigitte Bardot

I stumbled upon this image recently, a meeting of two French starlets with amazingly tiny waists: Isabelle Corey who had then just been in my favorite French movie of all time, Bob le flambeur, and upcoming sex star Brigitte Bardot. This was taken on May 12, 1956, during the Cannes Film Festival.
Of course, Brigitte was on her way to change the face of screen eroticism forever while Isabelle would star in only a handful of films (mostly in Italy) until 1961 or so.

Yasmeen Ghauri, Supermodels
No Comments
For a guy who manages a site called Cult Sirens, I must admit that I’m not that obsessed with supermodels. Besides the issue of being too skinny, I often find that they all look alike, body type wise or even considering common facial features and attitude. For example, Gisele Bundchen or Heidi Klum don’t do anything for me. But there are still a couple that got my attention at some point or other, among them Yasmeen Ghauri.
Oddly, she was born in my hometown of Montreal on March 23, 1971, to a Pakistani father and German mother. Her dad was Muslim cleric for the Islamic Community of Quebec and very strict. When young, Yasmeen was discovered as she was working in a McDonalds at the age of 17, so traditional family values were put to the test. But she remained true to her calling and enjoyed local success rapidly, before going to New York to pursue on that lucky streak. At that point, there weren’t many models proposing that kind of beauty so she got noticed early on. Her own style of operating the walkway got her the nickname The Panther.
She enjoyed a nearly 10 year career, popping up everywhere for major shows (Versace, Lang, Gaultier) and key publications (Elle, Vogue, Marie Claire), even once seen in Playboy. Of course, she will remain a most memorable Victoria’s Secret model and she’s be seen in two documentaries, Catwalk and Unzipped. These days, Yasmeen seems to be active for charity causes, mainly concerning the conservation of Germany’s Black Forest and breast cancer research.
